A couple of days ago I went to the ICA to see a double feature. Double features are like double A sides, two great songs (or in this case films) for the price of one.
I went to see two Aaron Katz films, 'Quiet city' and 'Dance Party USA'.
I was really impressed by both the films. Both films though were funny, well observed and subtle. The first one Quiet City reminded me a bit of a more refined Funny Ha Ha, which I like a lot. Overall though if I had to pick I say preferred Dance Part USA. It rang more bells.
I left the cinema quite moved after Dance party USA with that new sense of purpose that I sometimes get after seeing a film I really enjoy.
It wore off quite quickly. Real life is never as redeeming as film life.
It's hard to change, a long gradual process that won't be swept aside by seeing a couple of films however much I wish it would. I'm starting to wonder though what it will take.
Here's the trailers from the film. Watch them if your interested and even if you not. They are short.
Quiet City
Dance Party, USA
