Maybe I cared a bit too much for it because I hung out with that sort of crowd (as described in previous posts).
Not to brag, I do have some marc jacobs, anna sui, and dvf wrap dresses in my collection that I sometimes wear.
There are designers like Anna Sui who have that perfect blend of bright colours and rock and roll in her clothes. This may sound weird, but I can hear the music in her clothes sometimes. Season after season, she never disapoints me with her collections. I love the decor of the store too. She has concert posters all over the walls. I've also admired her design of Ramones T-shirts. They're priced about 40 USD. It's a bit on the pricey side; but not grossly overpriced. Her dresses usually go for 400 USD, high quality and unique designs so I don't mind shelling out that much for a dress or two every season.
The other day, I went to whole foods on bowery to do some food shopping. On the way, I passed by 313 bowery. For those of you who don't know what 313 Bowery is, that was the address of CBGB, RIP. I had to do a double take. In place of it was the John Varvatos clothing boutique. The decor looked kinda rock and roll so I decided to see the place and check out the fashion. Within minutes, I was disgusted. I wanted to throw up in the store. When you first walk in, you see the remants of the old CBGB wall. Poor old CBGB's wall. To the left, near the entrance there is a small area that sells vinyl. I was looking through the vinyl they had, which was obviously used.. but they had a good selection of old school punk and classic rock. I was looking at some of the prices. OMG it was like WTF. A clearly used copy of Joan Jett's I love Rock and Roll was 40 dollars! for a used record? I also saw a Green Day 1039 smoothed out slappy hours on vinyl for 65 dollars. OMG SERIOUSLY?
What else did I see at John varvatos?? $750 USED Ramones T-shirts. 300 dollar used wrangler denim jackets with HOLES. 200 dollar converse sneakers. 400 dollar DRmarten style boots. I can go on but i think It would make everyone sick.
This is more of a disgrace to CBGB than anything. I wonder who in their right mind would pay all that money for records, used t-shirts, and converse? CBGB was never about the corporate mindset. Fuck CBGB's t-shirts were 20 dollars. Reasonable.
John Varvatos seriously needs to rethink his "tribute" to cbgbs at his store.
Because the $750 ramones T-shirt is just plain offensive.

Even if the Ramones shirt is actually from the time they were playing (which would be hard to verify) how can they possibly charge $750! Are you sure it wasn't $75!?
I'm glad I just got to see CBGB's before it was gone, even though I didn't get to go in
No it was 750. even if they had a sale for 90% off everything would still be overpriced. Can you fucking believe that? seriously thats retarded.
