Short story and Dot Rotten

I love short stories. I recently watched a film called Paris J'taime which is all about the city of Paris (nah you don't say) and the meaning and effects of love.

It was a bit of a soppy one in places and had that French flavour (which is tasty in doses, but a little but overpowering and sour in extremes - like when Arsenal was full of French players and playing amazing ((or "getting down the wing and pulling the ball back" along football)) ... but was a great example of the short story craft.

Short stories are at their best when they disorientate the reader. As a reader you are welcomed into this heightened moment in time - sad, happy, soulful, bleak or mystical - which is exquisite in it's precise nature.

I recommend people read anything by Raymond Craver if they want to see the short story in it's great form. Amazing, simple, direct and perfect.

I'm really liking Dot Rotten at the moment. He has a controlled and skippy'ish flow which packs a lot of venom.

If you don't cut the strings, there's more grief

I've been thinking for a week about the 'Lego Cut beef' I seem to have got myself in, since that time I saw them in the Old Blue Last and said they were playing acid house and one of them looked eggy - which was well funny.
Then they asked if I was deaf as well as blind and stupid, and asked if I was a child.
Mumdance posted my blog to them on Myspace and they all got annoyed cos I realised they look all eggy and shit.

But, always one who likes to keep something going, I went on their Myspace to see when they were next playing and that, so I could go and hiss all the way through their set, or throw lego blocks at them for a laugh.
But they have no upcoming dates/bookings
poor Lego Cut, nobody must like their style of acid house. :(

I've decided, when Wasted Superstars Promotions starts putting on nights, we'll have Lego Cut every single time.

Oh, and Mumdance, if you read this, maybe you could tell Lego Cut I've written this about them and post it as a comment on their myspace.
Cheers

Not A Day Goes By

I'd have to say unless something goes drastically wrong today, this weekend will of been one the best in a long time. Nothing extra amazing or unusual happened, it was just fun and stress free. I did write a long account of what happened from Friday till now but Im trying to keep things concise from now. Lets just keep it at a good few days, except of course for the obligatory pub bait.
Oh and thanks to CM I'm well on the way to becoming a chess Grand Master.

This is on tuesday, it could be good and my buddies (this sea reflects stars) are doing some sort of DJ/performancy thing.

Facebook Groups

Hey.
I think someone should make a 'Wasted Superstars' group on Facebook

But not me, cos I'm not on Facebook, because there's too many people I'd rather not have to make awkward conversation with,
such as
"Oh hey."
"Hey, how's it going"
"Yeah, life's pretty cool, I'm working at (insert generic shit job here)"
"Oh, that must be pretty cool, I finished at (insert generic university here) last year; and now I'm working in (insert shop or simmilar terrible use of a graduate degree job here)"
"Cool, are you still with (insert girl/boy's name of someone you never use to like here)"
"Nah, we broke up long ago, now I'm with (insert name of boy/girl you use to hate equally here)"
"Oh wow, I never saw that coming. Remember that time when (insert clutching at straws, barely memorable, unfunny moment involving the both of you here)"
"Oh yeah, that was heavy"

And then people can join, and we can actually find out how little the amount of people actually read this blog.
Good ideas - I'm full of them

Best of Wiley

Here are two YouTube videos relating to Wiley that will make me smile every time I see them

At the end of the second video, imagine the tiger was me, hugging Wiley.
Because that actually happened!

It's good to talk

I was thinking about something this morning while walking to college. That thing is this.

People don't like to be challenged/confronted/argued with anymore. It seems to me like you can't discuss anything for longer than a minute with someone before you get told to either; shut up, laughed off like its all a big joke or simply the other person loses interest in the discussion. I think this lack of good conversation and arguing (it doesn't have to be a dirty words with connotations of fights) leads to people getting really lazy arguing when they actually have to do it.

For example I asked someone I was living with, why he wouldn't recycle, I'd asked politely for him to do it and given good reasons for it. At first he said something about it giving money to 'big corporations' then something about him doing it in the past but now not believing in it. There are many things wrong with hs argument but thats for another time. After I had questioned all his weak reasons, he admitted he was just lazy and proudly stated it was his right not to recycle. He did in fact recycle after than conversation and thankfully there seems to be no lingering beef.

The point is, and maybe its not the best example, is that if you challenge people, its not just because you want them to do as you do or think the same way for an ego trip. Sometimes good things can come out of people sharing and discussing ideas.

I personally think a lot of the time it's people that claim to be liberals that are the lest open minded and most conservative about certain issue and have the least interest in discussing their views extensively.

It always strikes me as strange but I think of the prominent music orientated social groups, a lot of "punks" are really unlikely to rationally discuss their world views. A lot of the time it seems like a lot of these punks' ideology is ripped from some manual that was written in the mid 70's when socially, and economically things weren't great in England. A lot of these 'punks' see themselves as left wing freedom fighting liberals but when it comes down to the most trivial of things like someone not wearing the right uniform or talking about how they like a band a not playing power chord driven-double speed rock or spouting (often) empty rhetoric they don't want to know.

I'm certainly not saying this is all 'punks' as I know its not, but I'd say a decent percentage odopt this attitude. 'Punks' would argue that they are down with Reggae and Ska, but adopting one style of music and rejecting near everything else doesn't seem like the sign of open minded people to me. Don't get me wrong. I like a LOT of things about punk culture and love a lot of what would be deemed 'punk' music. I just don't like this close-minded attitude that I think sometimes resonates, particularly in the 'punk scene'

I know people just wanna have a chuckle and thats cool. Im all down for a chuck too. But lets talk about things too, educate ourselves and share our knowledge. Of course I could be talking a load of fish brains and if you believe I am feel free to arguee/dicuss/converse with me.

Death

It's mad when you think that in the 1910's 400,000 British people died and worldwide an estimated 48 million died as a consequence of WW1.

That's nuts.

That is unthinkable nowadays. I know people say that numbers don't really matter but this level of death and destruction is beyond reason.

I don't really know where I'm going with this one. Just shit... A lot of people died for, sorry to say this, nothing really... Maybe I'm missing the point I don't know.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I saw a pigeon today with only one toe bit. He was a fat little bastard but just sort of hopped about awkwardly. Pigeons must be one of the most widespread animals in the world alongside ants and frogs maybe.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

In further Griminal and Tempz news... (see last post) ..... Tempz, Ghetto, Jammer and Brutal were on Westwood on Sunday and shit went off.

Ghetto came out backing Griminal, with a bar stating that the "Its alot" phrase was made up by Joshua (Griminal) and Tempz got mightly fucked off and went into a tirade of nuts chat... even started merking Ghetto and, out of nowhere, Jammer... hear more below...

A simple pleasure

...is, when you listen to a album you really like, that you haven't heard in ages.
In my case, it's my favourite album of all time

Test Icicles - For Screening Purposes Only

Then I started thinking about this:

Which reminded me of the last gig they ever played, which I was at, and was one of the best nights of my life.

Wiley @ the Amersham: A list

Here is a list of things about the Wiley gig in the Amersham on Friday 18th April

  1. I had an interview with some French bloke & a girl with a camcorder (one of them old skool ones) about how New Cross is becoming 'the new Shoreditch'
  2. Wiley actually turned up and performed about 5 songs and was on for about 20mins
  3. All of Tomb Crew recognised me when they were in the DJ Booth, and BB Manik shook my hand (to take our weekly handshake total to about 5)
  4. When Wiley was leaving, I collared him, shook his hand and gave him a big hug.
  5. When Wiley was leaving, I collared him, shook his hand and gave him a big hug (It's so good it needs two points)
  6. Tomb Crew are still the fucking Daddies when it comes to DJing, playing great songs and generally getting the crowd into a frenzy.
  7. Standing outside Kizmet drinking Red Bull should be done in moderation, and not for too long periods of time.
  8. Axeman looked like he might of been a really good MC, I just couldn't hear him very well
  9. Guy is one of the nicest guys I have ever met
  10. No Pain in Pop & Deadly Rhythm always know how to put on a good night

Wiley on Friday

In the event that you haven't had ears for the last month, or have been living in a hole.
Or just generally socialising in the wrong circles:
Wiley is playing in the Amersham Arms on Friday.
And it's gonna go off!

I can't wait.

Also, it's free for the 1st 50, so get there early, then leave with your stamp and stand outside a shop for a bit.

I'm on tha G-List, so I don't need to worry about such minor behaviour.

Regards
See ya there

The Beef is well brewed...but don't serve it with Potato wedges or you will get slapped!!

A clash is brewing in Grime between two young abrasive MC's.

The two MC's are the slightly older Tempa T...

A barking, high topped angry geezer.

Commander Meehan once met Tempz and attempted to nudge him... Tempz does not do nudges and snarled back and slapped his whole palm over the Commander's fist.

I never thought anyone would me mad enough to annoy Tempa but Griminal has managed it

And the Nasty Crew member Griminal... the young prince of the grime world (but whose lineage is truly royal - he is a brother of Marcus Nasty, Nasty crew founder, as well as Mak 10 the legendary DJ from deja vu days.) and

The argument seems to be over who said "It's alot Its alot" first. Griminal demanding that people that use the phrase pay him some sort of monetary compensation... which Tempa refused to do. And so the beef stew was put under the flame and beagn to bubble.

We shall see how this develops... I would say Tempa by a shade but you couldn't get two more uncompromising MC's. I just hope I see a clash live on stage between these two cos it will be nuts... and violently explosive...

Griminal

Watch for Griminal older brother (another nasty brother)Little Nasty on the other mic.

And Griminal Bad man in a bad manor line, I was raised by the bad man in a bandana that's why I behave in a such a bad manor...

Tempz

Delia Smith cooking frozen food and making a TV show about it! What the fuck. I'm not joking, she poured a pack of potato skins on a baking tray and explained to the audience that these take 18mins... she fucking read the pack. She must be floating in an inflatable ring in the Caribbean sea smoking fat cuban cigars and laughing at us all... someone slap her please.

iTunes

Hey.
I signed up to iTunes music store yesterday, and I bought a couple of songs, including this one, which I really like at the moment.

But anyways, I put them onto my phone, because I listen to music on my phone, cos it's easy to change from radio to MP3.
But when I listened to them on my phone they was at half speed, so they were unlistenable.
And I was really sad.

Does anyone know how to convert MP3s from itunes onto a nokia, or changing the song speed?

Insane in the Brain

If I hear Valerie By Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson once more I will go mad and I'm not joking. Expect to see stories in the News of the World tomorrow of a nutcase on the rampage-well unless I don't hear it again and then the world will be safe.

While I'm at it, I really can't stand Adele or The Hoosiers.

Adele looks like a really miserable cow and should go back to life in leggings on the estate. Her songs are really boring and in the words of Dusty O she has the head of a pig.

The Hoosiers-how can you take them seriously when they have Ben Stiller as the lead singer, they make shit songs about Ray-who gives a fuck about him?

Had to get that off my chest-now who's next?

Saturday @ 333

I'm going to here on Saturday
I reckon I'll spend most of the time in the Basement - cos I'm gutter.
Prancehall!
Dexplicit is one of the biggest Bassline DJs at the moment.
And As usual, It's always a pleasure to see Tomb Crew tear up the deckle.
Maybe I'll get my T-Shirt,
although, probably not.
---

I was watching 'real football factories' last night, and I like the way Danny Dyer talks.
I might start talking more like him.
"It's gonna be naughty"

Quick report

Went to see the Chels play Fenerbahce at Stamford Bridge tonight. It wasn't the best of games. We scored in the first 5 minutes from a good Ballack header. From then on we sat off Fenerbahce, barely played decent a pass, and lacked any creativity.

My name sake and favourite player, Kalou, had a bad game. I think he was unfit or injured because he didn't seem to be able to run and his touch was consistently awful. He was subbed around 60 minutes, replaced with Belletti and Essien moved into midfield.

Around the same time Cudicini got some mystery injury and was replaced by Hirlario, who made some very important saves while the Chelsea team were asleep and Fenerbahce were allowed to attack at will.

In the last 10 mintues, Lampard got a second goal for the Chels, after some determined play from Essien. It was sort of against the run of play and flattered Chelsea. We'll have to play much better if we are finally going to overcome the 'pool.

One plus point was the flags Chelsea put by your seat which provided some fun waving action during a disappointing and at times frustrating game.

Those were the days

On Saturday I was mistaken for Ricky Wilson from the Kaiser Chiefs by a drunken girl in The Good Mixer in Camden. The last time I was mistaken for someone famous in The Mixer was about 12 years ago when a few tourists thought I was Brett Anderson from Suede, which got me thinking about those times.

This was at the height of Britpop and I was in the the thick of it. The Good Mixer was supposed to be the pub where it all started, with all the main players drinking in there and being one big happy family. I only ever seemed to see either Graham Coxon from Blur or various members of Menswear, I think musicians must drink in the day time when the rest of us are at work. But it was still exciting at the time for someone like me coming from a small town and seeing those bands on Top of the Pops and then drinking in the same pubs.

I was thin and bony(we were the original drunkorexics)back then with dyed black hair wearing lots of black. Suede were big business at the time and it was quite flattering being mistaken for Brett.

Now that I'm being mistaken for larger people I have vowed to actually start using my stepper machine I was bought for Christmas (I requested it, it wasn't a hint) I am starting an intense programme to stop getting anymore comparisons to stocky singers.

I'm wearing all black today as a tribute to those days, I'm even wearing pointed boots on a Tuesday- how outrageous is that?

Farewell Good Weekends

Whenever I have a good weekend, with lots of laughs, lots of drinks, lots of fun.
On a Sunday night I get really sad that it's over.
Just like now.

I went out on Saturday to a restaurant/bar in the middle of Covent Garden, had 6 jugs of sex on the beach.
Then to a club not too far from Leicester Square. It was all good.
I tried on some Jean-Paul Gaultier cologne and it was soo nice, I spent most of the rest of the night making everyone smell me cos it was lovely.
I also hatched a plan, but that's for later.

And now I'm pretty sad that life goes back to normal.

Wow

Jay-Z at the Royal Albert hall with a whole orchestra breaking into Pow.
I know this is a year old, but I was telling some guy about it today and I watched it, and it made me all goosepimply.

It must of been like, getting the effect off an ecstacy, whilst cumming, while someone was injecting heroin inbetween my toes, whislt choking myself in a Michael Hutchence-stylee.

If I was there, it'd probably so good, my eardrums would melt and seep into my brain, which also comprehending this, would implode, thus caving in my skull.

Maybe there'll be some Tomb Crew based rewinds tonight at Jack's Club.
Fingers crossed

Oh a serious note

What...???

Still going to be the best song of the year.

I'm not really keen on this video, but I would like some fried chicken right now.
I'm glad William has kept up his tradition of not turning up to video shoots.

And I'm last happy about the tradition of great songs being given shit videos
Exhibit A:

(I just played them videos together at the same time, although it got messy in the middle - it sounded pretty good)

Also, The Sun has wrote the story that Wiley was scared of foxes and that's why he's not in it.
I'm glad that Wiley is of celebrity status enough to get on Gordon Smart's Bizarre.
Certainly better than that Fuckin' Geldof.

But I'm glad Agyness Dean is on it...I really like her, I reckon she's a right larf

Kool Keith is....

...great. I saw him play in back in the day, (2006). His show was a bit underwhelming but it didn't matter to me. I was amazed that I was seeing one of my all time favourite rappers in a tiny venue with about 60 other people. Maybe thats an exaggeration, but the turn seemed low for such a legend. In Olympia of all places, a tiny little town south of Seattle.

He was supported by a local punk rock band. I was given a copy of their demo CD but I have no idea where it is now. For some reason, KK didn't actually play full songs. He often would just rap the hook and maybe one verse. Most of the beats already had vocals on them, so he could of just mimed (he didn't).

I was really hoping he'd play this one song called "It's over now". It'd say its in my top 20 songs of all time. Its a classic with lines like, " People got their brain washed and folks got manipulated, they start beleiving Donald Duck made the earth". I asked him at the end when he was flogging over priced CDs to play it and he said something like "You remember that?".He didn't play it...

It's actually quite a sad song to listen to, and seeing him live it looked at times like he was just going through the motions. It's a different life being an underground rapper to a big shinny 50 cent arena playa. Maybe it takes it's toll.

Anywhoo. Salute Kool Keith, Dr Octagon, Dr Dooom, Black Elvis, Crazy Lou, Sinister 6000 (for a full list of alias check his wikipedia entry)

Selling your Soul

I don't know what all the fuss is about.
It's not like posting a blog is selling your soul or drowning kittens.
It's just informing people of your life, and thoughts and stuff.
And it's up to them to choose to listen.
AND, I hav discovered in my career as a blogger; when people comment on your posts, it's more often than not they talk about themselves anyways.
So yeah.

Friday; tell the kids (cos it's 16+, which is rubbish)

Concuring/The struggle

I concur with Syd. I had always believed that blogging wasn't for me because even thinking about my life bores me so I couldn't see it bringing any reading pleasure to anyone else. Yet here I am.

As this is my first ever blog, I think I'll make it brief and not too deep. I'll save that for when I'm a seasoned pro. Something about blogging scares me though. You hear about these people who get fired or don't get hired because their employer finds some dirt in a blog they wrote once upon a time. You even hear about people being thrown into jail for speaking their minds in less free countries.

This isn't the struggle referred to in the title though. No, that honour belongs to the seemingly endless war with my estate agents and just general life since my return from California. I know CM will probably disagree but I am very much looking forward to living somewhere different from London when my university stint is over. Paris on a recent visit seemed a good option. Also I hear Berlin is a happening place. I think it'd be interesting to live in a few different places before settling down. London to me is too cold in both senses of the word.

I can tell you it's not a myth that Paris has a lot of attractive women. The other CM (Ciaron M) and myself have seen the sights with our own four eyes.

Well,well, well

I never saw myself as the sort of person who would write a blog. Being very cynical I couldn't see the appeal of reading about someone else's boring life but here I am, being a hypocrite and writing my first one.

I got sucked in after reading CM's blog for a while and when it was suggested about joining, I thought fuck it, why not.

Greetings to my fellow Superstars I'm looking forward to being part of this caring, sharing kind of blog. Maybe I'll become a better person because of it(fat chance)
